Steve Balbi Releases Debut Solo Album “Black Rainbow”

It’s been a long time coming, but virtuoso musician, songwriter and performer Steve Balbi, has released his debut solo album, Black Rainbow. He’ll then take the album on the road in October, touring with the Baby Animals to Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Geelong, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Balbi, the former bass guitarist for Noiseworks, Electric Hippies and Rose Tattoo has created a rock album that reflects on where he’s come from and where he’s going. A remarkable story that comes with being the familiar face of one of Australia’s biggest bands of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and living the rock ‘n’ roll dream.

Lucy Wilson debut 7″ – Full To The Brim

Drawing inspiration from the present day Bic Runga and Gillian Welch to the past in Hank Williams, Lucy Wilson frolics between folk, pop and poetic storytelling with a seemingly casual ease.

The experience of studying An Advanced Diploma Of Jazz to guesting on The Smith Street Band’s 2011 debut album reverberates through her music, with a delivery, and subsequent audience, as broad as her influences. Along with securing a slew of international supports including Iowa blues singer William Elliot Whitmore, former Avail frontman Tim Barry, New Jersey troubadour PJ Bond and bluegrass punk Austin Lucas, Lucy has graced the pub festival circuit with performances at The Poison City Weekender in her hometown of Melbourne, Blood Sweat & Beers in Sydney and All Tomorrow’s Shoeys in Tasmania.

The Frontier Touring Company has confirmed the return of American rockers Fall Out Boy to Australia this October, this time bringing Melbourne’s own British India along for the ride.

No strangers to our shores, Fall Out Boy played a pair of intimate theatre shows in March this year that sold out almost immediately after going on sale. Perth’s metallers of the progressive kind, Voyager are bringing their much anticipated live show to Brisbane in support of their heralded new album. The Meaning Of I. They came with Children of Bodom, they came with Alestorm and now they are coming for you.

They will be officially launching The Meaning Of I at Brisbane’s Crowbar in Fortitude Valley on Friday, August 23 with The Matador in support. There is also room for TWO bands to open the night and Voyager have made those slots available to anyone who wishes to apply.

BIGSOUND Music+Design Announces Speakers, Beer, and Nick Cave

The inaugural BIGSOUND Music+Design today adds a slew of speakers, led by none other than Nick Cave. An icon of modern culture, Cave has been performing for more than thirty years as the singer of The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman. He is an acclaimed film score composer, scriptwriter, novelist and occasional actor.

The new program, connecting the worlds of design and music will ignite Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley on September 10 and 11, with two days of conferences, showcasing and networking.
