NIKKO & QUIET STEPS – Dual LP Launch
@ The Zoo, Saturday Nov 24
& Victorian Dates (Nikko Only)
On Saturday the 24th of November two stalwarts of Brisbane’s independent rock scene, Nikko and Quiet Steps, will descend on Brisbane’s The Zoo to celebrate the launch of their latest respective releases on wax. Tickets are $12+bf through zoo.oxtix.com.au or $15 on the door.
Founded in 2005, Nikko have toured the country relentlessly since the release of their 2010 debut The Warm Side, sharing stages with …And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead and Japan’s BORIS, along with Australian contemporaries Eleventh He Reaches London, Harmony and sleepmakeswaves.
Following the release of second album Gold & Red and a subsequent national tour, Nikko will return to The Zoo to launch the vinyl version of their latest full-length on November 24th. The album will be available on the night as a deluxe gatefold double LP featuring gold and red coloured vinyl pressed at 45rpm.
Gold & Red has been receiving high praise across the Australian music press since its July release:
“Hovering between melancholic barroom balladry and thunderous post-rock, Nikko inhabit a niche in the Brisbane music scene all of their own, a Gothic Western sound that lays the atmospherics on thick and never lets the tension slip… a force to be reckoned with” – Time Off
“If it takes a certain kind of bravery to be truly sincere, then Brisbane’s Nikko are dangerously unafraid… Gold & Red is the kind of record that sits readily alongside its contemporaries (Hoodlum Shouts, Charge Group) as much as the acts it takes inspiration from (The Church, Dirty Three). Yet the songs are so strong and delivered with so much conviction that the context is largely unimportant. This is a frighteningly destructive record.” – Mess+Noise
“Nikko have crafted a resolute grower, and one of 2012’s top Australian albums – somewhere, Rowland S. Howard is smiling.” ****1/2 – The Brag
“Nikko have created another elegiac yet iconic gem.” **** – Time Off
“Nikko continue to carve a unique path across the Australian musical landscape, and Gold & Red is further proof that such rustic post-rock mysticism is warranted – nay, vital – to our Australian musical landscape.” – Sonic Masala

Quiet Steps
Formed in 2005, Quiet Steps have honed their progressive brand of urgent post-punk over three full-length albums and a slew of EPs.
With the majority of the band having recently relocated south, Quiet Steps will return for a one-off hometown show to launch their latest record Dying Livers, performing a selection of dark, unrelenting, melodic indie rock from the new album and early 2012 release Secular. Dying Livers will be available on the night as a 12” vinyl in 3 different colours along with a bonus CDR containing both Secular & Dying Livers.
“Secular sounds like a band emancipated from the restraints that a genre can inadvertently provide, and by shirking those tropes have creatively broken through the glass ceiling. A brave move that has more than paid off” – Brendan Telford, Street Press Australia
