They breed them tough up here (map reference: S4)
Today at 10:30am in Stockman’s Rest the Queensland Minister for Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience David Crisafulli MP and the RNA will present the inaugural award for resilience to Gympie pineapple exhibitor Chris Doyle and Brahman beef cattle competitors from Eidsvold Tony and Kate Mortimer (and their young boys). This award recognises people who have been through tough times – in this case the 2013 floods – and still managed to come through it and compete at this year’s Show.
Songbird’s strength after tragedy (map reference: O8)
Despite losing 11 of her family members in Australia’s worst ever house fire in Brisbane in 2011, brave Brisbane songbird Viva Lale realised her late music-loving cousins’ dream by taking to The Voice stage earlier this year. Although she didn’t progress past The Voice auditions Viva is now enjoying a flourishing singing career which will see her perform the Australian National Anthem in front of thousands of show-goers in the Energex Community Arena this evening.
Angora goats have the life… (map reference: R2)
The angora goats are not only cute to look and have a wonderful fleece, they know how to live life and take it easy! This breed of goats will not be led, they need carrying to the show ring for judging!! The angora fleece judging will be held from 12pm today.
Costa’s a coming (map reference: J13)
Costa Georgidias, Gardening Australia’s enthusiastic host will talk recycling and the value of your waste during his 2pm appearance on the Brunnings Garden Platform. Set amongst the beautiful surrounds of the Ekka’s Horticulture Exhibit on the ground floor of the new Royal International Convention Centre, the Garden Platform will showcase a 10 day program of gardening and cooking presentations.
Fashion Fever (map reference: I12)
Thanks to its spacious and stylish new home in the Fashion and Fine Food Pavilion in the fabulous new Royal International Convention Centre, the iconic CommBank Natural Fibres Parade is set to smash its attendance record of 30,000 visitors this year! With plenty of seating and the addition of standing room, the thrice-daily (12pm, 1pm and 2pm shows today) parades and its celebration of Queensland’s agricultural industries and local design talent are attracting huge crowds.
