Lizotte’s Birthday Bash – Newcastle – Saturday 2nd June 2019

10 years ago the bones of a beautiful old art deco theatre stood dormant in Morehead Street, Lambton. For decades prior, generations of people had passed through it’s doors. The spaces has had many incarnations, such as a picture theatre, a restaurant and even a roller rink. Once filled with laughter and sound but in 2009 it stood silent.

90 mins down the freeway was a legendary music venue called Lizotte’s. The kind of place that as a music fan, even if you hadn’t been there, you had heard about. The stories of moments that you wished you had been there when huge named artist played an intimate show to just over 100 people. Owned by Brian and Jo Lizotte’s and frequented by the who’s who of the music industry including brother Diesel.

Live Review : 36 CrazyFists + Superheist + From Crisis to Collapse + BLKLST + Take My Soul @ The Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle – 7 April 2019

Words and Pics: www.hoskingindustries.com.au

Another Sunday gig at the Cambridge Hotel and another early start. Not a huge issue in and of itself, when the venue fails to list the correct start time on its own website until late into the afternoon of the show and you aren’t surprised when the bands on show tonight are playing to far fewer people than they would normally.

Tour News : KARNIVOOL ANNOUNCE THE PRAXIS TOUR 2019

Karnivool, Fidelity Corporation & Billions Australia are very happy to announce The Praxis Tour 2019.

Praxis definition: the process of using a theory or something that you have learned in a practical way.
Karnivool was a sleeping giant in 2018, but the beast stirred in January of this year with a short run of dates in WA and SA leading into a headlining slot at the Unify Gathering festival in regional VIC. This jaunt was so well received (all shows sold out) and more importantly so much damn fun for the band that it only seems fair that they should visit the rest of Australia and remind their fans how unique the atmosphere is in the temple of Vool – the band were a little overwhelmed by how many messages they got from other cities in Australia asking for a visit – it had been awhile!

Live Review: Dead Letter Circus + Circles at The Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle – December 13, 2018

Dead Letter Circus at Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle – 13 December 2018

It feels like only yesterday that I was lucky enough to see Melbourne’s Circles supporting Tesseract at Sydney’s Metro Theatre. OK, so it was mid-September. However, in that time the band have been touring non-stop, including a jaunt to Europe and all that road time has paid dividends.

Despite already being a tight, taut and polished modern metal outfit, Circles dominated the Cambridge Hotel stage tonight with an obvious growth in confidence – not only in themselves, but also in the tracks off their latest album that make up the bulk of tonight’s set list. In fact, there didn’t seem to be a single song off their first EP to be heard. What's even more impressive is that they pulled this off with a fill-in bassist while Drew Patton was sidelined by a new baby. Just phenomenal.

Brisbane’s Dead Letter Circus has a long history of wowing audiences and listeners alike. Forming in 2004 (their debut album landing in 2010), singer Kim Benzie estimated that the band had played the Cambridge stage some six times over the years and tonight’s near-full house is testament not only to their memorable modern prog rock songs, but also a willingness to put in the long miles.

Tonight, they’re on fine form, with an extensive set list covering their entire catalogue. Some seventeen tracks have the Newcastle crowd wowed before a venue curfew sees them leave the stage without an encore. Frankly, if anyone is disappointed, they shouldn’t be. We were all treated to a night of some of this country’s best forward-thinking heavy music.
