Deniliquin Ute Muster 29th & 30th September 2016

Review by Natasha Wyborn

20,000 die hard fans came, saw and eventually slid out of the 18th Deni Ute Muster on the weekend. No matter what the vehicle from a 100K cruiser right down to the standard suburban car, all fell victim to the mud. For a festival conceived on a swamp in the middle of the plains of the Murrumbidgee any down pour becomes an issue. Days prior to the event the region was having its heaviest rainfall in years. Confronting the punter was the mud bath starting on the road to the front gate and never left your boots for the entire festival. Many an expensive foot wear became carnage to the deluge. For the hardcore it was fun, something to play in, for the “glampers” it was an excuse to justify why they never like camping in the first place.

He is arguably one of the most famous faces from 80’s music; loud, colourful and flamboyant; he is Boy George. On Saturday night Boy George together with Culture Club originals Jon Moss, Roy Hay and Mikey Craig joined 9 other outstanding musicians to smash live music out of the park at the Hordern Pavilion. The Gum Ball 2016 - Dashville - Hunter Valley, NSW Australia Photographer: David Jackson
Walking into The Gum Ball for the very first time I admit I was unsure what to expect. Rain poured and lightning threatened to end the Friday evening before it even began. Looking around I saw all walks of life from hippies to couples as straight as an arrow and even a mermaid yes you hear right. The common link between all parties was calm, peace and tranquility. I must say from the outset this is the perfect family festival, kids were everywhere and very welcome. There were plenty of activities to occupy them as well. From skateboard ramps to open puppet theatre this was a very clever addition.

It was a perfect night for the final a day on the green at Bimbadgen on Saturday. Warm afternoon culminating with a cool evening. At 7.00pm Chris Isaak dressed in his famous 15 kilogram blue mirrored suit took to the stage and shortly after owned it. The 59 year old was in fine form. “I hope I am in the right place dressed like this or I need to go ice skating”, The Californian crooner remains as charming as he is talented. Introducing the audience to an array of hits and covers during his almost 2 hour set.

Melissa Etheridge at Enmore Theatre, Sydney - March 23, 2016 Photographer: David Jackson
Making a welcome return to Australia, Melissa Etheridge was in fine form on Wednesday night. Playing to a sell-out crowd on the first night of a two show stint, Etheridge poured her heart and soul out for a predominantly adoring female crowd. Although older, the crowd responded to the songs with a loud voice of approval. The moment Etheridge walked out on stage she looked at home. There was no holding Ethridge’s fans in their seats, From the first chord to the last, they were dancing in the aisles.
