The Christmas Tree Bucket: Trent Parke’s Family Album VISUAL
“It was there – while staring into that bright red bucket, vomiting every hour on the hour for fifteen hours straight – that I started to think how strange families, suburbia, life, vomit and, in particular, Christmas really was…” Trent Parke. So began Trent Parke’s latest and much-anticipated new body of work. The Christmas Tree Bucket is humour of the blackest hue. In a dazzling display of virtuoso storytelling Parke snaps the family rituals of Christmas with the in-laws and builds a gritty gothic tale of a nightmare lurking in the suburban shadows. Operatic in its vision and darkly satirical in its style, The Bucket is a photographic masterpiece destined for cult status. Trent Parke, the first Australian to become a Full Member of the renowned photographers’ cooperative Magnum Photo Agency, is considered one of the most innovative and challenging young photographers of his generation. He received numerous national and international awards, including five Gold Lenses from the International Olympic Committee and World Press Photo awards in 1999, 2000 and 2005. In 2003, Parke was awarded the prestigious international W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for his series Minutes to Midnight.

Reggie Watts ‘Why Sh*t So Crazy?’ Australian Tour – April 2011 [Tour News]

Following his sold out shows in the Sydney Festival 2009 and rocking the Lilyworld at the 2011 Big Day Out, Reggie Watts returns to Australia in April 2011 for some very special shows!

“Reggie Watts: Super comedian. Faster than a speeding punchline” Seattle Times

Reggie Watts began his career as a singer in various bands in the early 1990s. Then he started being himself. Crazy. Absurd. And the people laughed. They’re still laughing. In his unique sets, Reggie’’s subjects range from ancient history, technology, magic, spirit elves, dragons, mythology and theology to pop culture. The music, exploiting a jaw dropping vocal range, incorporates hip-hop, tripͲhop, 80’’s pop alternative, nu-metal and classical opera – no two songs are ever the same. Reggie loves to disorient and confuse people in the most entertaining way possible.

“Weird Al” Yankovic Australian Tour 2011 [Tour News]

“Weird Al” Yankovic, the undisputed king of pop culture parody, has sold more comedy recordings than any other artist in history. In a career spanning nearly three decades, he has amassed 30 Gold and Platinum albums, 7 Gold and Platinum-certified home videos and 3 Grammy Awards (with 11 nominations).

The singer-songwriter’s first real brush with fame came in 1979 when he recorded “My Bologna” (a spoof of The Knack’s “My Sharona”) in the bathroom across the hall from his college campus radio station where he had a weekly DJ shift. A devoteé of musical satirists Spike Jones, Tom Lehrer, Allan Sherman and Stan Freberg, Yankovic’s budding career took off when the song became a sensation on the nationally syndicated “Dr. Demento Show.” Just a few years later, Al landed his first recording contract and has since created an extraordinary legacy of music and ground-breaking videos, including hits like “Eat It,” “Like A Surgeon” and “Amish Paradise.”

Interview: Tom Ballard – comedian extraordinaire!

Interview: Elize Strydom
Knock Knock… Who’s there? Tom…. Tom who?
tom-ballardTom Ballard, the triple j Breakfast co-host and comedian extraordinaire. He’s only 20 but he’s already performed at comedy festivals in Edinburgh and Montreal. He was the youngest person ever to win the prestigious Best Newcomer award at the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He’ll be in Brisbane soon for a run of solo shows called Cogito Ergo Some Funny (as part of the Brisbane Comedy Festival).
That’s not funny. Yeah, you’re right. But Mr Ballard is!

Life Music Media (LMM): Afternoon Tom! Have I woken you up? I’d say your sleeping patterns have changed a lot since starting in triple j Breakfast?

Tom Ballard (TB): Yes, I used to sleep until 12 and eat good food. Now I get up at 4am and eat a lot of sandwiches and come home at about 1.30pm and then have a nap and try to continue to clean my apartment. That’s my rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

LMM: Has radio taken over your life? You’ve obviously still got a bit of room for comedy.

TB: Yeah, I’ve got to figure out that balance. It’s been an intense couple of weeks so far. This week, I had a gig on Monday night which threw me off schedule so I’ve been trying to catch up on sleep. Hopefully I can figure out the napping thing so I can work both ends of the day.

Comedy: Tom Ballard solo show ‘Cogito Ergo Some Funny’ @ Brisbane Powerhouse – March 2010

Do you want a double pass to see Tom Ballard? See below for details.
A wise man once said “Cogito Ergo Sum”: I think therefore I am.

tom-ballard   Not only does Tom Ballard exist, he also manages to do hilarious comedy. In 2010,for his brand new show, Tom shall drop some philosophical gems that even Descartes would be proud of, as well as jokes concerning his penis. It’s basically fun for the whole high and low brow family. With topics ranging from death to radio to the worst thing he’s ever done in his entire life, Tom’s Cogito Ergo Some Funny is an hour of stand-up that will make you both laugh and ponder at the same time.

Last year, at age 19, this law school drop-out became the youngest ever winner of the prestigious Best Newcomer award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Not bad progress for someone whose first stand up gig was at the brave age of 14, where he wore a bad shirt and then freaked out when he met Ross Noble.

4 MINUTE WARNING

St Kilda Laughs Festival present 4 MINUTE WARNING

It is 1966. England is a derelict wasteland. The BBC’s Emergency Broadcast System is our only hope. Let’s see who’s on line 1.

Four Minute Warning takes a look at history and gets it wrong. Germany won WWII with nuclear weapons. England’s survivors are living in bunkers. Albert is defiant. Ted is bored. What happens when the stiff upper lip starts to quiver? The mindset is outdated. The situation is dire. Four Minute Warning is hilarious.

Written by and starring Neil Sinclair (Raw Comedy winner 2008, Comedy Zone at MICF2009) and Doug Pickering (McPony, Sainsburize Me!), Four Minute Warning has been performed monthly at The Butterfly Club, with sell out shows, and is developing a cult status.

Patrons under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult (18+)

The Rogues Gallery Comedy Club, GRAND OPENING REDCLIFFE
Thursday 12th November 2009 – Review by: Lisa Lamb

Richard Price Shayne Hunter   There is no black and white to comedy. A comedian should be like a prism and refract the different colours of light “. – Richard Price

Redcliffe, (occasionally referred to as Deadcliffe by the locals), is no longer a sleepy place where the pelican builds her nest, all that has changed thanks to some very funny Rouge’s . Held on the first Wednesday of every month. This is an alternate comedy club run by comedians Shayne Hunter and Richard Price (founder of Rouge’s Gallery Comedy Club). It is a great way to catch up on some of Australia’s best talent before they become media stars, though some are there already, plus the price is right. Admission is free! Woo hoo! Located at the Bramble Bay Bowls Club, at the end of the Hornibrook Highway, people came from as far away as Toowoomba for the opening night, to laugh till their jaws ached, and then laugh some more.
