Susan Boyle’s ‘Someone To Watch Over Me’ debuts at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart

LMFAO accrue five weeks at the singles peak with ‘Sexy And I Know It’

Susan Boyle enjoys her third Australian chart-topping album, as ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’ debuts at number one on the ARIA Album Chart! She is the first 50 year old to top the chart since Jimmy Barnes a little over two years ago, and all three of her albums feature in the top 100 this week, with the first, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ at 59 and second, ‘The Gift’, at 78. Over on the singles chart, LMFAO chalk up five weeks at the top with ‘Sexy And I Know It’. Combined with the ten weeks that their smash hit ‘Party Rock Anthem’ spent at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart earlier in the year, it ensures they have had the longest run in top spot in a calendar year by one act since 1976, when Abba had five number ones for a cumulative total of 30 weeks.

This week’s ARIA Album Chart features eleven top 40 debuts, headed by Susan Boyle. Joining her in the top 10 for the first time is ‘Triple J’s Like a Version 7’ at 6, continuing the success of 2010’s Version 6, which reached #2, with ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ Soundtrack coming in at #9 – all three previous Twilight soundtracks have peaked at #2! Joining the top 20 this week is Il Divo with their sixth album ‘Wicked Game’ at 11, Powderfinger at 15 with their new Best Of set, ‘Fingerprints & Footprints’, and local band The Getaway Plan at 17 with their second album ‘Requiem’, continuing the success of their first album ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ which debuted and peaked at No.14 in February of 2008. Rounding out the top 20 is Christian contemporary music artist Chris Tomlin, who lands at No.19 with his 2009 Christmas album ‘Glory in the Highest: Christmas Songs of Worship’.

Debuting just outside the top 20 this week is Ed Sheeran with ‘+’ at 21, Powderfinger’s second Best Of offering for the week, ‘Footprints – The Best Of Powderfinger 2001-2011’ arrives at 23, ‘Rewiggled: A Tribute To The Wiggles’ follows at 25 and finalising this week’s top 40 debuts is Pink Floyd with ‘A Foot In The Door: The Best Of Pink Floyd’. Movers and shakers this week include Michael Buble’s ‘Christmas’ up from 4 to 2, LMFAO’s ‘Sorry For Party Rocking’ up from 9 to 8, Rihanna’s ‘Loud” back to 22 from 36, Bon Jovi’s ‘Greatest Hits’ up 16 spots to 24, ‘They Will Have Their Way – The Songs of Tim & Neil Finn’ up from 31 to 26, and ‘The Very Very Best Of Crowded House’ up 7 places to 32. Re-entering the top 40 is ‘The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac” at 29 and Jessie J’s ‘Who You Are’ at 35.

Over on the ARIA Singles Chart this week, the top 4 holds firm, with Ed Sheeran’s ‘The A Team’ earning the UK singer/songwriter his first top 5 Australian single as it blasts from 13 to 5. David Guetta moves into the top 10 for the eighth time in just over two years, with ‘Without You’ featuring Usher up five places to 6, as Calvin Harris and his smash ‘Feel So Close’ move forward from 10 to 7. Jessica Mauboy and Stan Walker make a big impact, with their collaboration ’Galaxy’ jumping from 28 to 13, Lloyd featuring Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne follows hot on their heels as ‘Dedication To Me Ex (Miss That)’ races from 32 to 14 and Taio Cruz look set for another big hit as ‘Hangover’ featuring Flo Rida hits the top 20, up from 27 to 19. Leading the debuts this week is ‘Young, Wild & Free’ from Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa featuring Bruno Mars at 17, Ricki-Lee jumps in at 23 with her new single ‘Raining Diamonds’, Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ lands at 34, and Jason DeRulo’s ‘Breathing’ hits at 36.
