SLEEPMAKESWAVES Album Launch @ TONE, Surry Hills NSW – 21 July 2011 | Gig News

Sydney based instrumental rockers SLEEPMAKESWAVES are set to release their debut album ‘…and so we destroyed everything’ in July 21st 2011. The first single from the release is a driving melodic anthem titled ‘(HELLO) CLOUD MOUNTAIN.’

The track is a dramatic showcase for the band, focusing on a glittering melodic hook that is embossed by Dax Liniere’s lush production and the band’s heaving

musicianship. With a memorable climax and unique arrangement, (hello) cloud mountain signals the band’s continued desire to push into new musical territory.

Formed in 2006, the young group found initial success in Sydney’s burgeoning instrumental and progressive/post-rock scene – with a bold approach to the genre, their captivating live show earned them high profile supports with the likes of Pelican (USA), Signal Hill (USA), Unitopia, Sydonia, Eleventh He Reaches London and Sleep Parade, festival appearances including headlining Menagerie 2010 and a main stage position on successive Progfest tours in 2008, 2009 and 2010. They have independently released three EPs to date and their cinematic production and ambitious song-craft have earned them airplay nationally and internationally, including Triple J and the BBC, as well as considerable goodwill amongst progressively-minded listeners and journalists online.

Despite early success, the band weathered a difficult couple of years: Founding guitarist Tom Binetter departed (on amicable terms) in 2009, which saw the group contemplating their future. Pooling their resources, the band found new life with guitarist and long-time friend Otto Wicks-Green, at last settling down in mid-2010 to write and record their debut LP. Yet just before the heading into the studio earlier this year large amount of cash and music equipment was stolen from the band’s Sydney home, further complicating efforts to deliver the long-awaited debut LP.

The studio session, when it came, provided an idyllic escape from the problems that had led to it. The album was recorded over eight days within a secluded house nestled deep in Wingello State Forest. The band constructed their own makeshift studio (documented through their online videos) and hunkered down to record with producer Dax Liniere from Puzzle Factory. The album was eventually mastered in LA by industry veteran Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, U2, MUSE, Deftones, Tom Waits, Smashing Pumpkins) and this first cut from the album is a glimpse at the powerful results the session delivered.

“…and so we destroyed everything” will be released 21st July 2011, through Bird’s Robe Records.
