An Evening with Rickie Lee Jones will be a highlight of Vivid LIVE in the Opera Theatre on May 29 2010. Accompanied by a three piece band, Jones will perform songs from the back catalogue of her greatest hits as well as tracks from her 15th critically-acclaimed studio release, Balm in Gilead.

From the moment she first appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1979, Jones has challenged her listeners and the establishment with an absorbing musical vision that defies border and classification. She rocked the culture of singer-songwriterdom with her refusal to conform to the conservatism of the folk rock generation that came before her. Neither punk nor pop, she confounded expectations by jumping from jazz to R&B, rock and even electronica.

Her sense of humour, musical dexterity and song craft is all evident on her exquisite new album Balm in Gilead, a kind of destination that all her previous career had been heading towards. In concert, you’ll hear the musical routes and byways that led her there – in a survey of the artistic strata she has accumulated over such a long career.

At 54, with her deeply ingrained vaudevillian heritage well intact, from the heights of popular music to the deepest respect of her peers and appreciative fans, Rickie Lee Jones remains a unique artist of undeniable influence on singers and songwriters today. Celebrating her 30th anniversary of making music, this rare concert promises to be one of the most memorable events of Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House.
