WINTERBOTTOM WINS AS NIKON SUPERGP CONCLUDES IN STYLE

Mark Winterbottom has continued his blistering form despite illness today aboard his #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon, coming home for the win this afternoon and finishing second in this morning’s race at the final day of racing for the 2009 Nikon SuperGP.

That makes two wins, and two runner-ups from the four 150km races this weekend for the driver who has been battling a glandular illness this week, with the points he collected – the most of any driver this weekend – elevating him to fifth in the championship.

The Beautiful Girls New Single and Tour Announcement

on November 9th, 2009

After 7 years on the road… in hotels, in foreign mud, strewn packets of guitar strings, bags full of hotel keys, flight stubs and stickers on gear cases that map a zig-zag of touring across just about every continent on the globe, a motorcycle accident saw some cheap Los-Angeles-Hotel down time for Mat McHugh. That period saw him strip his songs down, take some time sitting still, and record his first solo album. A soulful unwinding, and a timely look back to the early TBG.

Table for 20: A remarkable concept and source of inspiration

by: Rob [StickySteps.com]

It all started with my girlfriend who overheard the complaint of one friend to another – A restaurant in Surry Hills, near impossible to get into. We were curious.
It is described as neighbourhood dining. A dinner shared amongst friends and strangers lucky enough to get a reservation (which is only available by SMS). The concept is unlike anything else we had encountered in Sydney and instantly conjured imagery of some kind of underground, urban “food club”.http://www.tablefor20.blogspot.com/. The blog reads: “So here’s the deal – We do a 3 course set menu every night, you can BYO or drink mine. The cost is $60 Wed, Thurs, Fri & Sat.”

You won’t find this restaurant in your Good Food Guide. In fact you will find very few references to it anywhere outside of its own blog.

Our experience.
After months of trying, we were fortunate enough to be given the seats of a last minute cancellation on Friday night. We arrived at about 7pm to allow us some time to have a drink at their bar Sticky and to suss out the wine options. The low-key entrance was via a quiet back alley in Surry Hills – in what felt like the loading entrance to a cool room. A piece of paper was stuck on the door “SMS the following password and wait patiently for entry. Password = Turtle”….

Whitley ‘Go Forth Find Mammoth Tour’ November 2009

whitley   Following on from his critically-lauded debut “The Submarine”, Whitley returns with stellar follow up, “Go Forth, Find Mammoth”. Written and produced by Whitley, and engineered in a ramshackle studio on the Victorian Coast, the new album pushes the talented songwriter to his limits.

This well-realised follow-up picks up where his debut left off in it’s warmth, beauty and intimacy, however it carries a much bolder aspiration. “Go Forth, Find Mammoth” is an engulfing journey filled with flourishes and triumphs. Multiple harmony vocals, strings, pump organ, pedal steel, horns

and even a hammer and a bedroom door make up this album’s truly rich and exciting sonic palette.

Live Review | One 4 All – Karalbo @ Brisbane Powerhouse 16 October 2009

One 4 All – Karalbo @ Brisbane Powerhouse 16 October 2009
Photo and Review by José Eduardo Cruz

One 4 AllFor many reasons, tonight’s offering is nothing short of spectacular. This is theater at its rawest and most natural without the star attitude. The performers are not paid actors, nor are they trained or would they be considered seasoned professionals. Karalbo is a collaboration between several well know Brisbane artists and youths from various cultural backgrounds trying to find their place in an ever-changing society. The motivation behind this project was to present, if only to a few, a stage and an audience to express valuable stories and somehow come to grips with the duality that invariably comes when you are born and raised within a cultural construct and grow up within another predominant cultural construct that will, try as it may, always see you as an outsider.

Vanessa Amorosi, Michael Buble and P!nk top ARIA Charts on debut this week!

Vanessa Amorosi swoops on top spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week with her hit “This Is Who I Am”, scoring her first ever No.1 single and at the same time, ending the seven-week chart topping run of David Guetta‘s “Sexy Bitch” (feat. Akon). It’s the first single to hit No.1 on debut since Flo Rida‘s “Right Round” back in February, and only the second to have achieved this feat in the past twenty-two months. “This Is Who I Am” becomes Vanessa’s fifth ARIA top 10 single, surpassing the No.4 peaks achieved by “Shine” in 2000 and “Perfect” in 2008. Vanessa also becomes the first Aussie artist to claim simultaneous No.1’s on the ARIA Physical and Digital Track Charts since “Sweet About Me” from Gabriella Cilmi in June 2008.

Live Review: Tom Ugly with The Rocketsmiths and Comic Sans @ The Troubadour, Brisbane

Review by: Bec

You can’t help but get excited about the youth music scene when you see bands like Comic Sans, The Rocketsmiths and Tom Ugly perform.

Hands down the best performance of the night was first support four-piece group, Comic Sans, who are in the throes of recording their first EP. This is a band to watch. Consistently brilliant and musically elusive, they wowed the small crowd at The Troubadour with a commanding display of musical dexterity and sophistication. They give a truly committed live performance that rivets your attention. Exciting; talented; you can’t ignore Comic Sans’ presence; they have the X factor.

CD Review: Suffocation – The Close of a Chapter (Live in Quebec)

Suffocation: The Close of a Chapter (Live in Quebec) 2005
Review: Lana Harris

Suffocation   ‘This is … Brutal!’ yells Frank Mullen at the end of The Close of a Chapter’s opening track, “Infecting the Crypts”. This is Suffocation. Birthed from the insomniac New York Underground, Suffocation clawed their way to the top of the death metal pit in the early nineties, with shadows of their unrelenting riffs and Mike Smith’s seminal blast beats cast across lesser black drum kits ever since. Suffocation captures the energy of a single moment of explosion and sticks it on endless repeat. And the lyrics are about killing people. Yeah, it’s brutal. But this isn’t a
dissection of the value of Suffocation’s music. That blood spattered throne has already been carved.
