THE JIM JONES REVUE – Australian Headline Shows – January 2012

Loud and hard-driving The Jim Jones Revue brings its frenetic style of rock back to Australia with the announcement of headline shows around Falls and Southbound Festivals.

Self-described as “sonic brutality,” The UK’s The Jim Jones Revue is a powerhouse of vintage 50s punk and soul. Whipping crowds into a frenzy with their stripped down, piano-heavy, Jerry Lee Lewis flare.

Their 2010 critically-acclaimed album ‘Burning Your House Down’, produced by Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds/Grinderman), captures the roar of an untamed band at the top of their game.

With the microphone shredding wail of the incomparable Jim Jones at the helm, fearlessly spurred by Rupert Orton’s six-string maelstrom, Elliot Mortimer’s savaged ivories and the jackhammer rhythm section of drummer Nick Jones and bassist Gavin Jay, The Jim Jones Revue swing like a giant ball and chain. Buick Six – Costa Mesa Sun | EP Review

Review by: Victoria Nugent

Brisbane garage rock band Buick Six are back with their third EP, Costa Mesa Sun, named after a Californian destination close to the hearts of frontman John Ryan and his bass playing brother Griffin.

After 2008’s The Buick Six and 2009’s Common Arms, the band laid low for a while as they evolved towards a different kind of sound, introducing analogue delay pedals and harmonic vocals from drummer Nick Morrison. A high school friend of mine long ago instilled into me the belief that singing drummers are awesome, and often present in bands of true quality.

It’s just one of many things working in the band’s favour, with Costa Mesa Sun showing off lashings of talent as well as willingness and ability to develop their sound (a skill not to be underestimated).

Epidemic… Over gets The Stone rolling with video, Signing to MGM

The Stone is well and truly rolling for Epidemic… Over after the release of their Single in October. December 1st 2012 will see the online release (December 10th for it’s TV debut) of their filmclip for The Stone and March 8th, 2012 will see the release of their 5-track EP, Long Way Home, through Australian stalwart distributor, MGM Distribution.

Epidemic… Over (E…O) are a passionate, hits-you-right-in-the-heart alternative rock band from Queensland – soaring vocals to sing along with, a rhythm section to die for and delay-drenched and distorted guitar riffs to lose yourself in make them an unquestionably formidable sonic force to be reckoned with. They have shared the stage with Australia’s best alternative acts: The Butterfly Effect, Birds of Tokyo, Dead Letter Circus, Floating Me, Gyroscope, Shihad, British India, Behind Crimson Eyes, 28 Days, Calling All Cars, Electric Horse, Helm, Sydonia – the list goes on.
