New date announced for Sunsuper Riverfire!

Brisbane Festival today announced the date for the iconic Sunsuper Riverfire would move to Saturday 29 September 2012 to close the annual arts festival with a bang.

The date change accommodates September’s packed events calendar and brings Queensland’s favourite fireworks display into the school holiday period, making it easier for families from regional centres to attend.

Brisbane Festival Artistic Director Noel Staunton said the main festival dates previously announced have not changed.

“This year, Brisbane Festival will be held from 8 to 29 September, the only event that will move is Sunsuper Riverfire,” he said.

“As the city’s biggest night of the year, it will be a brilliant closing event for Brisbane’s largest festival and will allow everyone to attend.”

Brisbane Festival will open on Saturday 8 September with the laser light show Santos City of Lights, which promises to be more spectacular than ever and will run nightly for the three weeks of the Festival thanks to the support of Events Queensland and Santos.

Three weeks later Brisbane Festival’s closing celebrations will kick off at 1pm with free entertainment including 104.5 Triple M’s live broadcast. For those celebrating at home, Channel Nine’s exclusive live coverage of Sunsuper Riverfire will start from 6.30pm.

Brisbane Festival, which is an initiative of the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council and supported by Principal Partner Channel Nine, will boast an exciting program of music, theatre, dance, free entertainment and much more.
