National coverage through Triple J and Rage builds the anticipation on My Fiction’s album launch tonight and the question on everyone’s head is whether the album will deliver what this band has long promised.

I missed the opening support act so I apologise for not arriving earlier at the venue. I did however make my way there on time to catch Numbers Radio’s show in its entirety. I am a big fan of these guys.

This is the second time that I have seen them since their debut album was released and they just continue to grow as a band every time.
There are no gimmicks or unnecessary stage behaviour. They simply come on stage and deliver a tight, fast and strong rock and roll set. Like it should be, straight to the point, no mucking about. I hope Numbers Radio can continue on this creative and growth path so they can continue to showcase what Brisbane has to offer.

Following the completion of Numbers Radio four guys in white body suits proceed to jump on stage and get into a sound check. For a second the crowd was a little perplexed as to the identity of these four individuals, but with a little concentration it was clear that it was all the members of My Fiction preserving their identity before the show.

Prior to their set the audience, which by now had grown close to a full house, was entertained by Judy Dolls, a group of burlesque dancers. Having never seen live burlesque I was naturally intrigued by what was on offer. To my surprise partial nudity was on offer and to the male audience members this became a sight to behold. Definitely one of the most interesting support acts I have ever seen.

Finally My Fiction take to the stage to ruptures of applause and screams from the legion of female fans that have congregated at the front of the stage. They stick to the formula that has got them to this stage in their career by pumping out song after song with danceable bass lines, drums that stick to the pocket, punchy guitars and very clean vocals. Judging by the size of the crowd and the reception of all the new material, My Fiction’s debut release will meet all expectations and surprise many along the way.

There was a period when Brisbane’s live scene had stalled and faced a difficult recovery. With what was on display tonight it is safe to say that the fears were unfounded and Brisbane will continue to produce great bands with national and international potential.
