Supports have been announced for the upcoming MONO tour. And what a great selection of Australian and Kiwi artists they are.
Starting things off at The Rosemount Hotel on December 4 will be two of Perth’s finest. First on will be the dark stoner psych shades of Mt Mountain who are fresh from recording a great new album. Plus post doom noise freaks Tangled Thoughts of Leaving will occupy the main support slot, after releasing not only one of the best albums of 2015 in Yield to Despair, but also a cracking EP The Black Captain.
At The Corner on Friday December 5 in the main support position will be Sydney’s We Lost The Sea, who are coming down from the harbour city for one night to show us how they construct and deconstruct the most epic, emotional and devastating sounds. Local post-rock monsters Fourteen Nights at Sea will be in the opening slot and will give us a taste of their new masterpiece Minor Light.
The first Sydney show on December 6 at The Newtown Social will have Fourteen Nights at Sea fly up from Melbourne for a special performance. Opening up on the night will be Sydney supergroup Tangents who feature members of Triosk, Spartak and Fourplay and play music inspired by contemporary classical composition, free jazz and experimental electronic sounds.
The second Sydney show on December 7 at The Newtown Social will feature the return to Sydney of local legends We Lost the Sea plus a strange brew of mind-melting, toe-tapping, psychedelic, progressive and poly-rhythmic discordant sounds in the form of Serious Beak.
The Brisbane show on December 8 at Woolly Mammoth starts off with the instrumental progressive psych two piece The Sea Shall Not Have Them. Then main support comes in a bout of beauty between collaborators when Danyl Jesu bring industrial white noise, artificial drone and a shoegaze wash whilst juxtaposed to this will be Pale Earth the project of one Benjamin Thompson with his pastiche of electronic ambient, drone, folk and glitch.
The MONO tour winds up in Auckland, New Zealand at Kings Arms on December 10 with math/prog/psych wizards Mothra in the main support slot. Plus get down early and catch the fuzzy shoegazey doom of Greenfog.
