Level Up! The already huge Maroochy Music & Visual Arts Festival (MMVAF) lineup gets even bigger today with a stack of exciting new music and visual artists.
Adding some chilltronica to the ampitheatre is none other than Japanese Wallpaper who has just released a brand new single ‘Cocoon’. The triple j Unearthed High Alumni and Hottest 100 artist recently toured with M83 and is sure to work in hits like ‘Forces’ and ‘Breathe In’ among some other fresh cuts from his forthcoming album. This young beat master joins an already huge contingent of legendary artists including Matt Corby, Peking Duk, Allday, George Maple, Client Liaison, Ngaiire, City Calm Down, Bad//Dreems, Vera Blue & Pop Cult.
It’s a lineup that has been absolutely killing it lately. Just in the last week, Allday released a new track ‘Sides feat. Nyne’ and Vera Blue popped up all over the place including a guest vocalist feature on ‘Papercuts’ with Illy and on stage for Flume’s mammoth Splendour set alongside another MMVAF artist, Ngaiire. With just over a month to go until festival time, there are whispers of even more new tunes from this bunch to get pumped about and no need to worry about clashes. With one main stage, free couches and zero timetable woes there’s time to see absolutely everyone.
Also announcing today – Alex Lahey headlines the Champagne & Oyster Garden Stage at MMVAF just over a week after thrilling crowds as the triple j Unearthed Splendour in the Grass opener. Experiencing a meteoric rise with tracks like ‘Let’s Go Out’ and ‘You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me’, the festival is delighted to add her to an already brimming swagger of artists.
MMVAF are also pumped to reveal 15 DJs for the Ghetto Blaster Stage, headlined by none other than the nation’s preemminent youth current affairs host Tom Tilley (triple j). Tom will be joined by some of the region’s best locals as well as legendary Brooklyn scratch DJ Total Eclipse.
Returning with gusto on Saturday September 10, MMVAF promises an immersive arts experience alongside a natural ampitheatre mainstage at the old Horton Park Golf Course. Placing a huge emphasis on visual arts, MMVAF 2.0 features a specially commissioned work by renowned artist Amanda Parer to be unveiled on the day. Last year she created huge infamous bunnies, this year her giant, luminous work ‘Fantastic Planet’ will debut at MMVAF before touring around the globe. A myriad of visual artists join Amanda to complement the festival’s trademark rolling greens, diving right into the fantastical, the surreal, and the magical explorations of the universe. Additions to the lineup today include Chinese street artist Ochid and locals Zoe Porter, Gimiks Born & Thom Stuart.
It wouldn’t be a world class fest without world class food and MMVAF has the mouthwatering goods. Enlisting 2016 Masterchef runner up Matt Sinclair to create an array of culinary delights, the festival is taking its food offerings up a notch. He’ll be joined by everything from wood fired pizza to latin street food experts.
Final release tickets are on sale now at mmvaf.com.
