Making a welcome return to Australia, Melissa Etheridge was in fine form on Wednesday night. Playing to a sell-out crowd on the first night of a two show stint, Etheridge poured her heart and soul out for a predominantly adoring female crowd. Although older, the crowd responded to the songs with a loud voice of approval. The moment Etheridge walked out on stage she looked at home. There was no holding Ethridge’s fans in their seats, From the first chord to the last, they were dancing in the aisles.

Like a Messiah, with plenty of banter to her loyal disciples “Some of my fav people are right here up the front! I’ve known them from way back in 88. It’s taken me a long time to get over here Sydney but it’s so worth it…. you know what it’s all about.”

“From the first to the last and the almost 30 years in between” Etheridge gave the audience more than they bargained for with a two hour marathon satisfying even the hungriest music fan. She didn’t fail to deliver favourites including ‘Come to my window’, ‘I Want to Come Over’, ‘Like the Way I Do’ and the 1988 smash ‘Bring Me Some Water’ which kicked her career off in Australia.

The show itself was high energy, spectacular lighting and continuous interaction with her fans. Her four piece band complemented Etheridge’s presence to perfection.

Overall an awesome evening coming from one of rocks great masters or should I say mistresses. Etheridge plays the Enmore again tonight before heading to Byron to play Bluesfest on the weekend.
