5 Seconds Of Summer at Allphones Arena, Sydney - June 20, 2015

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

Sydney boys 5 Seconds of Summer kicked off their first ever headline Australian arena show last night at Allphones Arena in Sydney on a high. Thousands of screaming teenage fans filled the arena for their favourite band to take the stage. As the screen was raised their appeared Ashton who opened the show solo on a drum riser getting the crowd ready before his band mates joined him. Opening their sold out show with their upbeat hit End Up Here had their fans go wild from the get go. From that moment the audience knew they were in for a spectacular night.

5SOS global success has quickly seen them grow from YouTube sensations to complete rock stars with five songs in the top 50 of the ARIA single chart: double platinum debut and worldwide iTunes #1 She Looks So Perfect, UK #2 Don’t Stop, Amnesia, Kiss Me Kiss Me and Everything I Didn’t Say. This boy band is definitely the one to look out for as their long term musical career is looking strong with bigger & better things to come. The stage was laid out with two major platforms on either sides of the stage with the middle platform raising Ashton and his drum kit above his bandmates. The connection the boys shared was evident throughout the night as they constantly interacted with each other as well as getting their fans involved in every part of their show. Michael split the crowd into three sections and had the crowd repeating after each of the band members, keeping the rock star energy flowing throughout the night.

The band took a moment to embark on their journey of how they began their music career as Luke said: “Sydney do you mind if I tell you a bit of a story? So if you’re a fan of our band you probably know this story but I’m going to tell it anyway. Our first gig we ever played as a band was to about 12 people at Annandale Hotel. So for 3 or 4 years later to come back and play to about 12,000 is incredible. So thank you to everyone tonight”.

Calum then took to the microphone addressing his fans “You know I think this might be the best show of the tour”, making the entire arena of fans scream with joy and excitement. Introducing their next song Michael added “This is for the people who said we’d never make it, we stay true to who we are”. They then kicked off with the song titled Rejects. Not long after the band introduced a little surprise to the stage as they welcomed Ashton’s younger brother Harry to show off some of his amazing guitar skills, he had the crowd screaming & clapping. The crowd was simply amazed by the 11 year old’s talent.

Sydney, do we still have energy left? I said do we still have energy left tonight? You guys have done so much for us”. As the lights were dimmed the audience were immediately captivated by the bands perfectly toned voices singing Amnesia. The crowd was out of their seats holding their phones in their air with the lights on swaying from side to side singing along which created a beautiful mood throughout the entire arena.

The night was drawing to an end and the boys left the best for last. Closing the show with their chart topping hits She Looked So Perfect, Good Girls and their cover of The Romantics’ What I Like About You sending the fans into a frenzy.
