Laneway Festival 2010 announce final acts and more…

It’s the final countdown. With the first leg of the Laneway Festival kicking off NEXT WEEK, we have a final round of announcements to make.
The Sydney and Melbourne dates sold out some time ago; outlets in Adelaide and Brisbane have sold out but you can buy the last remaining tickets via www.lanewayfestival.com.au; and all cities look to sell out pre-event. Get your tickets now etc.

FINAL ACTS ANNOUNCED!
First: we’re extremely excited to announce the addition of FRIGHTENED RABBIT to the Sydney and Melbourne line-ups. We fell in love with the Scottish band’s visceral, heart-breaking debut Midnight Organ Fight a few years ago and by all accounts, the songs from their forthcoming LP are as equally as charming. An unexpected treat from us to you [Sydney and Melbourne only].

We’re also pleased to introduce Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalists Eric Ronick and Than Luu AKA BLACK GOLD to Australia for the first time. Pimping tracks from their 2009 debut Rush, the duo (who have supported The Pixies and played as touring members with the likes of M. Ward and Swervedriver amongst others) will win over audiences with some of the warmest and most charming indie pop offerings in recent memory. For real. [All Australian cities]

As previously announced, the good people at triplejunearthed.com have handpicked some of the best unsigned talent starting to surface around the country to open for us in each city. They be:
Adelaide band THE SALVADORS have been through a whole heap. Name changes, losing a drummer, gaining more members, throat surgery and losing mixes in the post is just the start. However, they’ve managed to pull it all together and have released their EP Misspent Youth. With catchy tunes, raw and distinctive vocals plus a heck of a lot of energy, The Salvadors are ones to keep and eye out for at this years Adelaide Laneway Festival [Adelaide only].

THE FROWNING CLOUDS are five young lads who hail from Geelong, Victoria. They make moody, soulful and head boppin’ music. Their youthful energy mixed with wild rhythms and a heavy dose of 60s garage leaves punters no choice but to get up and dance. They’ll be gracing the stage at Melbourne Laneway Festival this year so head down and catch them before they get too big for their bowl cuts [Melbourne only].
Sydney songwriter FERGUS BROWN writes catchy and energetic pop gems. His debut record is a collection of quirky and tender love songs. In previous years he has won the Qantas SOYA Award as well as the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. He’s playing Sydney Laneway and if you don’t make time in your schedule to check him out you’ll be kicking yourself whilst everyone else is falling in love with him [Sydney only].
Fresh on the scene, YOUNG REVELRY are an exciting prospect. With a strong emphasis on melody offset with a good dose of noise and rhythm section punch.. Fusing elements of sludge, doom, reggaetron and, of course, pop, Young Revelry are quickly becoming one of the most talked about bands to come out of the prestigious Western Australian music scene [Perth only].
In the past year COMIC SANS have well and truly staked their claim on the Brissie music scene and are set to take the rest of the country with their debut EP ‘Digital Natives’. This has included dozens of headlining shows as well as a series of high profile support slots with the likes of Die! Die! Die! (NZ), The Protectors, Tame Impala and Bang Bang Eche (NZ) amongst others. The addictive ‘Digital Natives’ EP is a riff heavy, blinder of an EP that leaves fists pumping in the air, carnage on the dance floor and sweaty punters begging for more [Brisbane only].plus…
Direct from Footscray Victoria, we are also pleased to welcome THE WHITE GOODS to the Sydney event. Winners of the joint Laneway/Footscray Community Arts Centre initiative, The Very West, THE WHITE GOODS are here to show you a good time. Their debut album ‘Servants’ is a raw and rollicking audio tour of Melbourne, taking in the sights and sounds, highs and lows blow by blow. [Sydney only]. www.myspace.com/thewhitegoodsmusic

PUMA ARCHIVES UNCOVERED
Sydney punters should also make extra effort to catch THE BLACK LIPS, PHILADELPHIA GRAND JURY, DANIMALS and DAPPLED CITIES, who will each perform a cover version of one of their favourite tracks as part of the PUMA Archive Uncovered program. PUMA Archives takes inspiration from its past to give you today’s fashion with a twist of its heritage. Just like music! We’ll be filming the songs and hosting them on www.lanewayfestival.com.au so you can experience this little piece of magic on demand. Tidy.
SPECIAL SCREENING OF ‘THE DEVIL & DANIEL JOHNSTON’ IN MELBOURNE!
We recommend that you get yourself along to a very special screening of the superb cult documentary, The Devil and Daniel Johnston. Director Jeff Feuerzeig weaves together vintage performances, home movies, dozens of recorded audiotapes and testimonies from friends and family. Anchored by Johnston’s awe-inspiring music and artwork, the film is a heartrending portrait of madness and genius walking hand in hand. There might just be a special live acoustic performance from the man himself.
