John Butler Trio Launch New Video, Live EP and Tour

On April 3rd this year, the John Butler Trio took to the stage at the Apple store Sydney to perform an exclusive up close and personal performance for their fans. At the completion of what was an incredible and intimate set the band were elated to share the news that their ‘April Uprising’ album had entered the ARIA albums chart at number one, the band’s third consecutive album to do so.

It is with great pleasure the John Butler Trio announce that outstanding in-store performance is exclusively available as a download from Apple’s iTunes Australia store from Tuesday July 27th. The John Butler Trio Live From Sydney EP features 3 tracks from the ‘April Uprising’ album including the current emotive single ‘Revolution’, the major hit single ‘One Way Road’ and live favourite ‘Johnny’s Gone’ as well as two classic crowd favourites in ‘Better Than’ taken from the ‘Grand National’ album and ‘Zebra’ from the hugely successful ‘Sunrise Over Sea’ album that broke it all wide open for the band worldwide.

The John Butler Trio has recently completed their most successful North American tour ever. Highlights included a capacity crowd of 8500 people at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado (check out a pre-show interview and magic performance here), a sold out Central Park Show in New York City as part of the impressive Summer Stage concert series (see the Billboard Magazine review here), as well as sold out headlining shows in Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Los Angeles, San Diego and Boston.

The band made their first ever trip to Brazil where they played to 4000 eager fans at Festival Alma Surf Expo and 1200 people in Belo Horizonte where the crowd conducted many a sing along and took over singing duties for ‘Better Than’.

In Canada, the band played two new markets on the bill for a couple of great festivals; Festival D’Ete in Quebec and the Ottawa Blues Festival, the reaction was amazing and CD’s sold out at signings in both markets.
Back home in Australia the John Butler Trio continue to hold impressive radio stats for ‘April Uprising’ with Revolution, Close to You and One Way Road all continuing to hold down positions in the top 100 Airplay charts with the new single “Revolution” in at #11 this week, proving the album to be the bands biggest at radio to date.
The new video for ‘Revolution’ is also released today (click here to check it out!). It was made in Los Angeles whilst the band was on tour. Directed by james minchin iii. It’s an emotive black and white clip featuring a band performance interspersed with a large cast of fascinating characters from all walks of life depicting the diversity of humanity and the world we live in today.

Of the inspiration for the track, John Butler said,
Revolution is such an overused impotent word nowadays, I just wanted to explore the subject and find out what it meant to me. We live in some pretty extreme times .I think a lot of people are considering living in a drastically different way on this planet and with each other. They have to. But the old ideas of reform and revolution are not applicable nor have many “revolutions” really ever brought about meaningful change before they turn into what they were fighting. My idea of revolution is basically taking the R off the word. It’s evolution. It’s not gonna be some fanciful day that comes where everything is going honky dory utopia. That’s bullshit and a practise in futility. You can’t stop evolution. It’s sometimes painfully slow and other times brutally quick but never the less it is on-going. You can rev it up however; accelerate it from time to time by being engaged in your community, by being compassionate. I see that around me. That’s what I concentrate on when I’m being bombarded by the intense images and news of these times. Stay engaged but not inundated. By knowing that the revolution is underway and not some fantasy about to come I’m able to have the energy and optimism to keep being part of this eternal, unstoppable REVOLUTION.”

JBT fans need only wait a few more weeks for the band to return to Australian soil and embark on their biggest tour of the nation since their ‘Sunrise Over Sea’ album tour. The April Uprising tour kicks off in Fremantle on August 27th and takes in all capital cities and a host of regionals. Tickets are selling fast and fans are urged to grab their tickets quickly so as to avoid disappointment, the band will continue major international touring after this Australian leg and won’t return to Australia for some time.

The John Butler Trio announce their April Uprising tour will be a truly carbon neutral tour
GREEN TICKET OPTION: The John Butler Trio’s ‘April Uprising’ tour will be carbon neutral. Emissions associated with the tour (such as concert electricity generated from the shows, air and road transportation including touring party and freight) will be calculated and a reinvestment will be made into renewable energy projects. This will effectively balance out the impact the ‘April Uprising’ tour will have on the climate and is a positive investment to assist the current situation of global warming. People travelling to the concert by carbon transport will be able to purchase a green ticket which will incur an extra cost of 50 cents – this money will also be donated to renewable energy projects to help make this a truly carbon neutral tour.
JBT has engaged Ark Climate to give you the option of purchasing a Green Ticket for the OZ tour. For an extra fee of just 50 cents you can neutralise the average travel emissions of concert goers – 0.0227 tonnes of CO2 – and make your concert experience carbon neutral.

The carbon credits purchased on your behalf come from new renewable energy projects which meet the world’s highest accreditation standards. For further information on this initiative, please visit the John Butler Trio website.
