Jimmie Vaughan with Nikki Hill – Bluesfest 2014 Sideshows Announced

“He’s unbeatable when it comes to the blues. He just plays it like it’s supposed to be played”
– BUDDY GUY

JIMMIE VAUGHAN is far more than just one of the greatest and most respected guitarists in the world of popular music but as Guitar Player magazine notes “He is virtual deity-a living legend”!! He provides a vital link between contemporary music and its proud heritage, as well as being a longtime avatar of retro cool.

Jimmie Vaughan’s style as a player, songwriter and band leader can be thought of as an amalgamation of so many influences. Known for his deceptively simple yet complex attack, his clean uncluttered style capitalizes on conveying the emotion and message within the music.

Since releasing his first solo album in 1994 he has set the standard for quality modern roots music. His musical ethos and personal style have had an impact on contemporary culture from spearheading the current blues revival with The Fabulous Thunderbirds to his longtime innate fashion sense of slicked backed hair and sharp vintage clothes.

The older brother of legendary “Texas Blues” guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan comes from good stock and, with a genuine love of and finesse with the guitar, plays some of the best God-damn Blues on the planet.

Jimmie Vaughan utilizes raw emotion, simplicity and an elegance that is powerful and accessible yet communicates exactly what he feels inside. It’s an approach that has earned him the respect of many of the greats of contemporary music.

Accompanying Jimmie Vaughan on stage is the Austin Blues and R&B diva, Lou Ann Barton. For a famous blues vocalist, with a number of her own albums (Read My Lips, Thunderbroad) she is one of the finest purveyors of raw, unadulterated roadhouse blues that you’ll ever hear – having performed with the likes of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. It is said she has to be seen live to be fully appreciated so make sure you see her live and in all her glory.

JIMMIE VAUGHAN’S special guest on this run of Bluesfest Sideshows is NIKKI HILL.
Roots rock’n’roll powerhouse Nikki Hill has been hailed as “The Staple Singers meet AC/DC”, as well as “The Southern Fireball”, “the New Soul Sensation” and even “the New Queen of Rock and Roll”. She draws on vintage female rhythm and blues influences such as LaVern Baker, Etta James and Ruth Brown, as well as some of her favourite male singers Otis Redding and Solomon Burke.

Her tough vocal style fits with contemporary sensibilities yet evokes all the great blues shouters of previous decades. Nikki and her band deliver a high energy show and take all the flavours of American roots music to deliver a sound that reminds us all why we love rock n’ roll.
