We caught up with KING PARROT vocalist MATT YOUNG to chat about Soundwave Festival 2015, touring and the year ahead.

You’re playing at Soundwave 2015. What are you most looking forward to about the festival?

It’s always a good time playing on the big stages in front of festival audiences, and to be on a lineup with so many great bands is really an honour. We’ve also been in the US for most of the last 6 months, so I’m really looking forward to coming home to some good weather.

What’s your favourite/least favourite festival experience?

My favourite was seeing the original Black Sabbath lineup at Download back in 2005, that was killer. My least favourite would have to be any of the festivals I went to when I use to get wasted, and missed everything. That always sucked, but I don’t have to worry about that anymore. hahaha

Have you got any pre-show routines/superstitions?

Yeah I always drink alot of water, maybe some red bull. I try to at least drop for a few sets of 20 push ups, Lots of stretching and screaming at a wall for a few minutes.

What other bands are you excited about touring around Australia and sharing the stage with?

I think its gonna be pretty cool seeing Faith No More and Soundgarden. Exodus and Judas Priest rule ofcourse. I know our drummer Todd is shattered we aren’t playing the same day as Slipknot. We’ve also never played with Ne Obliviscaris so it’s gonna be cool to hang out with those guys.

What is the most important thing you bring when your on tour?

A case of water, minimum 24 bottles and 10 pairs of shorts, its all I wear on stage so i apologise in advance for my gut and my ass hanging out, but it’s all part of the show ok.

Does the band have anything special planned for Soundwave 2015 in particular?

I know that we are going to be playing a bunch of songs from the new album which we are really pumped up about. I can’t wait to get this new album out, we’ve been working hard on it.

What does the band have planned for the rest of the year after Soundwave 2015 finishes up?

We’ll be going to Europe for the first time in March and then back over to the US for SXSW and another big tour. I’m sure we’ll squeeze in an Australian tour at some point too!

Is there anything you would like to say to your fan base ahead of the festival?

Hello, I love you, won’t you tell me your name? Thanks for supporting us we really appreciate, we got a killer new album on the way, come and get in the pit with us at Soundwave and let’s kick this party off with a bang!
