HOON Announce ‘Australian Dream’ Album Tour 2023

Dharawal/Wollongong-based garage-punk act Hoon have just unveiled their potent debut studio album ‘Australian Dream‘ – produced, mixed and mastered by Clayton Segelov at The Brain Recording Studios (Antagonist ADDear SeattleShady Nasty).

‘Australian Dream’ is eleven raucous tracks of distorted punk, capturing Hoon’s tumultuous live performances and chaotic songwriting, all while deliberating modern life in Australia. Ricocheting between the influences of 90s rock pioneers, surf punk thrillers and dynamic, progressive ballads, Hoon are a band that frequently skirts the line between maniacal and total mayhem.

Singles ‘Acab‘, ‘Propane‘ and ‘Fried‘ have showcased the band’s ability to create hook-laden romps packed with shouting gang vocals, shrieking guitars and rabid drums.

The band talk about the themes behind ‘Australian Dream’:

Lyrically, the tracks make both abstract and bluntly clear references to Australian culture and politics, consumerism, love, learning, toxic masculinity, mental/physical health and growth into adulthood. We often couple the intensity of the music with sarcasm, humour and a touch of irreverence to make light of the difficult world we’re all trying to navigate.

Accompanying the release is the music video for title track ‘Australian Dream‘, a hilarious odyssey that follows a shark head as it aims to experience more of Australia, both the excitement of youth and realities of adulthood. The band explains, “originally a full shark, legend has it that the shark head spent the youth of its life on the walls of a fish and chip shop in the Northern suburbs of Wollongong.”

To coincide with the release of ‘Australian Dream’, Hoon will hit the road on an eleven-date national tour across the east coast of Australia, with shows in Ngunnawal/Canberra, Naarm/Melbourne, Wurundjeri/Tecoma, Mulubinba/Newcastle, Yugambeh/Gold Coast, Meanjin/Brisbane, Kabi Kabi/Sunshine Coast, Cavanbah/Bangalow, Eora/Sydney, Miryyal/Ulladulla and Dharawal/Wollongong.

This continues from supporting luminaires SkegssDune Rats and Clowns, and most recently, a nine-date Australian tour supporting the release of their single ‘Propane’.

Singles off the record have received widespread blog support from PileratsHysteria MagBackseat Mafia (UK/AUS), Tone DeafAAA BackstageSomething You SaidAustralian Music SceneLife Music Media and Illawarra Mercury. They’ve also received extensive radio love from Australian radio stations NPR (USA), triple jtriple j UnearthedFBi3RRRPBS FM2SER4ZZZ2XXRTR FM and Radio Adelaide.

The band are incredibly passionate about helping build the arts in their hometown and have run all ages festivals such as ‘All Of Us‘, ‘Crown Street Takeover‘, ‘Hoon-Fest‘ and ‘The Gong Crawl‘, the last of which had over 150 contributors, spanned six venues and two art exhibitions.
