Island Vibe Festival returns for its 7th year, retaining its reputation as the absolute finest reggae, soul and dub event in not just Australia, but the entire the South Pacific. The first line-up announcement sees The Original Wailers gracing the beachside succulence that is Island Vibe with pioneering members Junior Marvin, Al Anderson & Desi Hyson backed up by a wealth of Jamaican and genre heavyweights.

The Original Wailers will be joined by fellow Jamaican Prince Alla with Mr Savona (Australia), Canadian beatsmith JPod with Italian dubmaster Gaudi. These internationals join Australian favorites Chant Down Sound, Kooii, The Upsteppers, Ganga Giri, Antiheroes and Rhythm Collision Sound. This announcement is just the very tip of the iceberg though, with many more artists and performers to be announced in the next few months.

With a strong eco and cultural focus, Island Vibe is held at the magnificent beachside location of Point Lookout, Stradbroke Island – or Minjerribah as it is known to the Quandamooka people indigenous to the region.

In the words of festival founder Morgyn Quinn “At Island Vibe we are blessed to have made it to our magic seventh year, to have woven so many beautiful connections with the Stradbroke community and to have hosted a vast array of world class musicians, dancers, dj’s, carnies, healers and especially all the wonderful people who have brought their love and good vibes to our dancefloors. 2012 is heralded to be one of the most exciting years in history, prophesized to be one of significant change for the human race and the planet we live on. It’s a year for people power and community – standing up for our beliefs and enacting positive change in our society – for rallying together against powerful corporations and governments hell-bent on exploiting every last resource on the planet.”

Island Vibe spans 3 glorious spring days at the end of the whale migration season and plays host to over 50 bands, DJs, dance and circus acts from around Australia, the Pacific and beyond. It’s a festival with a beach holiday thrown in, or a beach holiday with a festival thrown in, either way you look at it though it’s 3 beautiful days of good vibes, tunes, food and dance. This year promises to bring back another fantastic line up and even more special international guests.

The Original Wailers

From playing those unmistakable opening notes of No Woman, No Cry to the helm of today’s torchbearers of the Trench Town sound, guitarist and bandleader Al Anderson along with guitarist Junior Marvin unites The Original Wailers as a band who have chosen to honor their history not by attempting nostalgically to recreate it, but by taking the spirit, the intent of its creators, and moving it forward through the 21st century.

Sharing those transcendental moments with Anderson as a member of Bob Marley’s Wailers and here with him today is Tyrone Downie (keyboards) and Junior Marvin (guitar) plus an all star cast including vocalist Desi Hyson, drummer Francis (Paapa) Nyarkoh, Steve Samuels on bass and Erica Newell as the soulful female counterpart to Hyson’s distinctive vocals.
