DAMNDOGS is Chris Cester, Mitch McIvor, Mark Wilson and Louis Macklin. Some of those names might ring a bell! Mark Wilson was the former Taco Brothers owner at The Tote BUT you might know him better as the ace bass player of JET! Chris Cester played drums with his bro, lead singer Nic Cester from JET. This time it is Chris turn to shine, as he now grabbing the microphone and rocking out in his new rockin’ outfit with no drummer, DAMNDOGS. Don’t worry! JET have not broken up, they are just on hiatus.

DAMNDOGS have already played a handful of gigs in April in LA. They played their first ever gig as part of the annual Aussie BBQ at at Echo Park. This is their first ever concert in Australia, at Melbourne’s Toff In Town. With one song on Soundcloud and two more songs on their Bandcamp page, it is not the usual rock songs you would expecte but it is a much more dance oriented songs with some familiar samples. The first song DAMNDOGS played started off with a sample that to my ears sounded identically like John Cooper Clarke’s pounding beat of “Evidently Chickentown”.

Some people may call it ELECTRO but the band are calling it “DOOM DISCO”. Cester’s definition for Doom Disco is “We want people to move when they hear it, but we’re not going to coat it in dance-pop sugar.” Songs were pretty catchy on first listen and I liked what I saw and they even got a few people dancing up front after a standoffish start from the crowd.
