Kate Nash (UK) Australian Tour – February 2011 [Tour News]

The young Miss Nash has transformed into a powerful and enigmatic pop musician.

The new album My Best Friend Is You, perfectly demonstrates this story. The album naturally progresses through grungy pop, steering you blissfully with catchy hooks and humourous lyrical narrative. The help of 60s sounds of full brass pipes and twanging surf guitar show her diversity and ability to make poignant yet playful music. Often crude and clearly unafraid of a little bloodsport, Nash splashes playfully on the shores of innocence and idiosyncrasy. This juxtaposition is her most powerful weapon and is quintessentially, Nash.

One thing is certain, the coming performances at Playground Weekender and on Australias east coast are going to be unmissable. A clever musician with a compelling persona – shes not afraid to show them how its done. Get your tickets through the venue or through the Playground Weekender website.

Peter Frampton: 35th Anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive!

This week nationally syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio celebrates the 35th Anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive! Show producer and Host Redbeard visits with Peter Frampton. Visit InTheStudio to listen to the show ONLINE!!

Peter Frampton’s double concert album Frampton Comes Alive! in January 1976 was so phenomenally successful, and his resultant fame so widespread, that it is hard to remember a time when he wasn’t. I remember clearly my disappointment when he left Humble Pie, but was impressed that he wasted no time launching a solo career with the tasty 1972 release Wind of Change. Shortly after the release of the follow-up Frampton’s Camel in 1973, I drove several hundred miles during the Arab Oil Embargo to see Peter Frampton open for the Edgar Winter Group in Massillon Ohio’s football stadium . Even with what looked to be about five feet of stage depth allotted and undoubtedly only half of the P.A. afforded to

the support band , Frampton’s smartly-rehearsed band exhibited the same energy, exuberance, and tightly-arranged hooky songs that would be hallmarks of his record-setting live album three years later.

Queens Of The Stone Age – Sidewaves announced!

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have been one of the 21st century’s most engaging and ambitious rock groups. Led by Josh Homme, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have pursued an agenda of moody, sexy, high-energy rock that flaunts its danger and oddness, winning over fans and critics in the process.

Releasing their self-titled debut in 1998, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE boasted a stripped-down approach to hard rock and metal that valued gnarly riffs over head-banging theatrics. In keeping with the band’s desert origins, the songs had a sun-baked, slightly eerie quality to them, and as the album’s sexually suggestive cover indicated, QOTSA had a cocky, libidinous streak to them.

Double Pass Giveaway to the Cult Classic ‘THE ROOM’ – Tribal Theatre, Brisbane

THE ROOM – Weekly Double Pass Giveaway!
Double Pass Giveaway to the crazy cult classic movie – THE ROOM
See below for details

From January 14th – February 4th, Tribal Theatre will present four special Friday late-night screenings of the 2003 cult film The Room.

Dubbed ‘the Citizen Kane of bad movies’, Tommy Wiseau’s so-bad-it’s-good film will be screened on 35mm in all its glory.

A piece of cinema so awful it has become a cult phenomenon and an outrageous movie-going experience.

Audiences around the world have embraced Wiseau’s film, dressing up as their favorite characters, throwing plastic spoons at the screen, tossing footballs to each other, and yelling insulting comments about the film’s terrible quality.

The Room is a truly unforgettable film with glaring plot holes, strange editing and a bizarre lead performance from Tommy Wiseau himself.

Set in San Francisco, The Room is a melodramatic but unintentionally hilarious tale of a love triangle involving Johnny, his friend Mark, and Johnny’s fiancée Lisa – who is sleeping with both men…

The Room drew packed audiences when screened recently as part of Brisbane International Film Festival and Tribal Theatre is pleased to bring back the film for four special screenings at 10pm.

“You can laugh, you can cry, you can express yourself – but please don’t hurt each other” – Tommy Wiseau – Director, Writer, Producer, Executive Producer & Actor.

Join the madness and BYO beer & wine – plastic spoons will be provided!

The sumptuous second taste of Dead Letter Chorus’ upcoming album, Run, Wild has become (if you excuse the pun) a runaway success. The song’s existential yet hopeful sentiments have clearly tapped into the zeitgeist and in to the hearts of the general public thanks to a lot of love from national broadcaster Triple J as well as a slew of community radio.

Run, Wild was decidedly a highlight of the band’s live set on their recent East Coast tour alongside the considerable talents of Seagull and Dan Parsons. And it wasn’t just in live land that the track was heaped with kudos; its accompanying film clip was recently named Indie Clip of the Week by national institution, and savior of late night television watchers everywhere, Rage.

“Weird Al” Yankovic Australian Tour 2011 [Tour News]

“Weird Al” Yankovic, the undisputed king of pop culture parody, has sold more comedy recordings than any other artist in history. In a career spanning nearly three decades, he has amassed 30 Gold and Platinum albums, 7 Gold and Platinum-certified home videos and 3 Grammy Awards (with 11 nominations).

The singer-songwriter’s first real brush with fame came in 1979 when he recorded “My Bologna” (a spoof of The Knack’s “My Sharona”) in the bathroom across the hall from his college campus radio station where he had a weekly DJ shift. A devoteé of musical satirists Spike Jones, Tom Lehrer, Allan Sherman and Stan Freberg, Yankovic’s budding career took off when the song became a sensation on the nationally syndicated “Dr. Demento Show.” Just a few years later, Al landed his first recording contract and has since created an extraordinary legacy of music and ground-breaking videos, including hits like “Eat It,” “Like A Surgeon” and “Amish Paradise.”

Motörhead Australian Tour 2011 – [Tour News]

RED ANT TOURING PROUDLY PRESENTS
“Everything Louder Than Everything Else”
Motörhead return to Australia to raise hell in the service of rock ‘n roll in 2011.

“Lemmy is a God. He is the reason. He is the last man standing and no one comes close” – Dave Grohl

Motörhead play – correction – Motörhead ARE loud, fast, dirty, bluesy rock ‘n roll with an unrivaled, ruthless attitude; obnoxious yet dignified. For over 35 years the band has maintained their strong hold as a force of unrelenting sonic power, pounding their music into the ear drums of audiences all over the world; reducing the masses into exhausted, sweat soaked, tinnitus-suffering submission, and leaving them begging for more.

The band has uniquely pioneered both heavy metal and punk rock, and is revered by aficionados of both genres. Theirs is a sound and a way of being that sees their fan base continue to grow year after year, and that has rightfully solidified Motörhead as living legends of hard rock.
