Big Strong Brute is flexing his muscles up and down the East Coast this September with tri-state EP tour to celebrate the release of his upcoming EP ‘Good Work’.
With what’s probably the best ironic moniker in Australian music, Paul Donoghue aka Big Strong Brute has created an intelligent air of near-perfect pop songs for his latest musical offering. The internet has been buzzing on the Brisbane artist’s recent vid featuring a Napolean Dynamite style living room bust-a-move session. Now, the lauded Brisbane artist takes his nonchalant moves, and band, to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Big Strong Brute has a penchant for writing thought provoking pop gems, nabbing nominations for the Australian Music Prize (AMP) and Queensland Music Award for his previous album Avalanche of Truth. This follow-up EP continues his reputation for clever songwriting with ‘Wait’ and previous single ‘Wedding Pages’ already much loved by triple j Unearthed and community radio nationwide, but that’s not where it stops.
Recorded on a family cattle property in Old Koreelah, NSW, over winter last year Big Strong Brute’s ‘Good Work’ EP will be released July 31. Enlisting his old mate Todd Dixon (Meg Mac and The Panics) who drove up from Sydney, Big Strong Brute and Todd recorded the five tracks over about two weeks. It was cold. Paul drank lots of Hot Toddys to keep his vocal chords on point and the results are simply stunning.
With a live support history that includes the likes of Jens Lekman, First Aid Kit and Holly Throsby, Big Strong Brute takes centre stage this time as he continues to tone his carefree dance moves, matter-of-fact lyrics and downright muscle of an EP, ‘Good Work’.
