Bernard Fanning to perform at the Youngcare Benefit Concert – Tivoli, Brisbane – 8 Nov 2008

It’s been a long time between news, but we’re very happy to report that Bernard will be putting his solo hat on for a one off show in support of Youngcare. The Bernard Fanning Youngcare Benefit Concert will take place on Saturday November 8th at The Tivoli, Brisbane. Tickets to this exclusive event go on sale this coming MONDAY OCTOBER 6th AT 9AM from Ticketek.

Also taking part will be Kasey Chambers, Whitley and a surprise guest performer. Bernard is also acting as Musical Director and co-host of this year’s event.

As most of you will know, Bernard has been a long time supporter of Youngcare. The organisation aims to build world-class care apartments that offer a dignified and relevant lifestyle for young people with high care needs.

“Youngcare delivers solutions. I would not want to live in aged care before my time if I became in need of high care, so why should others have to? If my music can raise awareness and money for Youngcare to deliver quality care, then that’s great,” Bernard said.

“Sickness and disability happens, and when it does for young people they should become a priority in the community’s eyes – it shouldn’t be ignored. Youngcare gives back dignity and hope and that’s why they have my full support and will do as long as this issue remains,” he said.

In the 2005 Australian Health Review it was revealed less than 45 percent of young people living in aged care were visited by friends less than once a year. Twenty-one percent went outside the home less than once a month and 34 percent almost never participated in community-based activities such as shopping.

In December 2007, Youngcare opened the first ever Youngcare Apartments in Brisbane in collaboration with the community, business and the Queensland and Federal Governments. The Jindalee-based Apartments offer the highest standard of 24-hour care for young people in Australia.
