ARIA Chart News, w/c 29 June 2009

This week sees the domination of The Black Eyed Peas continue, as they break Madonna’s 1985 record to become the first act in twenty four years to replace themselves at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart. “I Gotta Feeling” becomes the group’s sixth number one single, putting them on equal footing with Eminem and Kylie Minogue, with only Delta Goodrem earning more No. 1’s (8) this decade. “Boom Boom Pow” drops to #2 after having spent a huge six weeks at the top.

Hilltop Hoods continue to hold strong at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart with their album “State Of The Art”, becoming the first Australian artist to spend multiple weeks at number one since Silverchair’s “Young Modern” in 2007. They have gone one better than their 2006 debut album “The Hard Road”, which spent one week in the number one position.

Taylor Swift shoots up a huge eight spots to #5 on the ARIA Singles Chart this week with “You Belong With Me”. Her only other Australian top 10 single, “Love Story”, hit number one on the charts, spent 17 weeks in the top 10, and is now the oldest single in the top 40 (24 weeks). Jumping nine places to #6 this week is David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland with “When Love Takes Over”, which is David’s first top 10 appearance and Kelly’s fourth. The Hilltop Hoods achieve their first ever top 10 single with “Chase That Feeling” jumping eight spots to #8, Linkin Park moves up fifteen spots to #7 with “New Divide” and Jordin Sparks climbs a massive sixteen places to #18 with “Battlefield”.

Bursting onto the ARIA Album Chart this week is the Jonas Brothers, with their album “Lines, Vines And Trying Times” debuting at #5. Homegrown indie rockers The Temper Trap make their presence felt with a #9 debut for their album “Conditions”, while Gossip’s “Music For Men” enters the chart at #13. Other debuts this week include “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” by Dream Theater and Alexisonfire’s “Old Crows/Young Cardinals” sitting at #16 and #17 respectively, while Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen soundtrack enters at #33.



In other ARIA Album Chart news, Green Day break back into the top 10 this week with “21st Century Breakdown” moving up to #8, and Simon & Garfunkel continue to hold strong with “Old Friends: Live On Stage” jumping five places to #22 and “The Essential Simon & Garfunkel” climbing two spots to #24 as their tour kicks on around the country.

There has been some movement in the ARIA Digital Track Chart this week, with Black Eyed Peas and “I Gotta Feeling” moving into top position, Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” up to #2 and Linkin Park’s “New Divide” climbing thirteen spots to #5. P!nk continues to lead the ARIA Music DVD Chart with “Live From Wembley Arena” and “P!nk – Live In Europe” sitting comfortably at #1 and #2. Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Concert In Central Park” moves into the #3 position.
