ARIA Chart News, w/c 20 July 2009

The Black Eyed Peas reign supreme again this week, as they achieve their fourth week at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with “I Gotta Feeling”, giving the band their tenth week straight at number one. Just two more weeks at the top will cement the Black Eyed Peas in ARIA Chart history as the only act to achieve 12 weeks running in the No.1 position. The single also remains in the top spot on the ARIA Digital Track Chart for the sixth week straight.

The impact of Michael Jackson continues on the ARIA Singles Chart this week, with eight singles in the top 40 (down from thirteen last week). His highest charting single is “Thriller” which sits at No.11. “The Essential Michael Jackson” and “#1’s” remain in the No.1 and 2 positions on the ARIA Album Chart while “Thriller” drops down to #4. Michael Jackson tallies a total of ten titles in the top 40 on the ARIA Album Chart, and seven in the top 10 on the ARIA Music DVD Chart, including the top two positions.

Taylor Swift continues to move from strength to strength, achieving a second top 5 single from her album “Fearless” as “You Belong With Me” moves up from 7 to 5. Jordin Sparks achieves her third ARIA Singles Chart top 10 single this week with “Battlefield”, which climbs five spots to No.6. She hit #5 in March last year with her debut single “Tattoo” and took out the top spot three months later with the hit single “No Air”.

In further ARIA Singles Chart news, Beyonce’s single “Sweet Dreams” shoots up a massive 19 spots to #10 in its fifth week on the chart while P!nk’s “Funhouse” jumps 15 spots to #13. Green Day cracks the top 20 this week with “21 Guns” up six spots to #17, Miley Cyrus climbs 17 spots to #23 with “Hoedown Throwdown”, and Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed” makes an impressive top 40 debut, coming in at #26.

Young opera singer Mark Vincent, who won ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ earlier this year, hits No.3 on the ARIA Album Chart with “My Dream – Mio Visione”, an impressive feat considering the top two positions are held again by Michael Jackson. Homegrown singer/songwriter Sarah Blasko makes a #5 debut with her highly anticipated album “As Day Follows Night” and Daughtry enters the chart at #28 with “Leave This Town”. Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” is up five spots to #15 this week, while Beyonce’s “I Am… Sasha Fierce” re-enters the top 40 at #32 after thirty four weeks in the chart.

The top four positions on the ARIA Digital Track Chart mirror last week’s chart, with Black Eyed Peas at the top, followed by Lady Gaga with “Paparazzi”, Linkin Park’s “New Divide” and Black Eyed Peas with “Boom Boom Pow”. P!nk continues to influence the ARIA Music DVD Chart this week, with two titles in the top 10. She climbs into No.3 position with “Live From Wembley Arena” and sits at No.7 with “P!nk – Live In Europe”.
