ARIA Chart News, w/c 17 August 2009

David Guetta achieves his first Australian No.1 single this week with “Sexy Bitch” (featuring Akon), knocking The Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” off the top of the ARIA Singles Chart after a record-breaking seven week stretch. Guetta appears twice in this week’s top 10, with his former #6 single “When Love Takes Over” (feat. Kelly Rowland) jumping four spots to #7. It’s Akon’s second number one single following “Lonely”, which spent three non-consecutive weeks at the top in 2005. “Sexy Bitch” also takes out the No.1 spot on the ARIA Digital Track Chart this week.

Michael Jackson‘s “The Essential Michael Jackson” achieves it’s seventh week straight on top of the ARIA Album Chart this week, making it his second-longest running No.1 album behind “Thriller”, which chalked up eleven weeks in 1983/1984.

Guy Sebastian returns to the ARIA Singles Chart this week with the debut of his new single “Like It Like That” which comes in at #6. It’s Guy’s first appearance on the singles chart since September 2007 and his first top 10 entry since spring 2006 when “Taller, Stronger, Better” hit #3 and spent six weeks in the top 10.

Fellow Aussie Kate Miller-Heidke climbs six spots to #3 on the ARIA Singles Chart with “The Last Day On Earth” while newcomer Pitbull is up eleven spots to #13 with “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)”. “Evacuate The Dancefloor” by German trio Cascada sits at #15 alongside Cobra Starship feat. Leighton Meester at #16 with “Good Girls Go Bad”, who are the biggest movers of the week after jumping a huge thirteen spots. Alesha Dixon’s “The Boy Does Nothing” makes an appearance in the top 20 this week after climbing twelve spots to #19.

Plenty of movement can be seen in this week’s ARIA Album Chart, with The Black Eyed Peas up to #2 with “The E.N.D” and P!nk up to 3 with the nine-times Platinum album “Funhouse”. Michael Jackson delivers a second title within the top 5, as “#1’s” moves back up from 7 to 5. Most notable is the massive 18-spot jump by Kate Miller-Heidke with her album “Curiouser”, which previously peaked at #8 and now sits in the No.15 position after five weeks in the chart. Re-entering the top 10 this week are Taylor Swift, with her former #2 album “Fearless” climbing five spots to #8, Lily Allen with “It’s Not Me, It’s You” up from 11 to 9 and Hilltop Hoods with “State Of The Art” up two spots to 10. The Script‘s self-titled album moves up an impressive twelve spots to #25 and “One Of The Boys” by Katy Perry comes in at #35, re-entering the top 40 after 46 weeks in the chart.

The ARIA Digital Tracks Chart experiences a shake-up this week as David Guetta‘s “Sexy Bitch” swaps positions with The Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” and moves into No.1 position. Kate Miller-Heidke‘s “The Last Day on Earth” moves up to #3 while “Like It Like That” by Guy Sebastian makes a #6 debut. “#1’s” by Michael Jackson remains on top of the ARIA Music DVD Chart while “The DVD” by Australian rockers Parkway Drive makes an outstanding #2 debut.
