The Kill Scene formerly known as the Dream Sequence inflicted a quick and painless death on themselves in front of a live audience, then musically re-incarnated. Sounding very much like The Cure as they delved into Gothic New Wave with a dark, ambient precision. Playing a blend of originals combined with 80’s British rock like Kate Bush “Running up that Hill”, along with a dark and twisted, yet beautiful version of “Let Me Entertain You” by Queen.    kill scene

Drawing thier influences from modern alternate acts such as The Killers, as well as the post punk old school classics like Joy Division and The Smiths. They have also adopted a few punk qualities, especially lead singer Jackson who has recently cut off his locks and has the “Hate everyone & everything and they will call you a genius” attitude in abundance. Luckily, this does not hamper thier performance, which is musically tight thanks to the ambient sounds and solemn presence of bass player Luke, who looks a bit like Lurch from The Addams Family. This is a very memorable band, who should really be headlining.

Feline Down are the act most people are here to see, fronted by former Bar Burlesque star Brodie, they are dynamic. Managing to maintain a unique style, from the moment Brodie takes the stage, wearing a one piece sparkly jumpsuit with the rings of Saturn around her head, looking like she’s just stepped out of The Jetsons cartoon. With the great song writing team of Kit Sivyer (vocals & bass) & Brodie Wright (vocals), the songs are original and quirky, yet still manage to contain heart and soul. Influenced by Goldfrapp, Garbage, Nine Inch Nails and the Muse, this is a band you must see live, they exude so much energy and fun.

Twist Oliver Twist are quite a good band, gaining a reputation for thier love hate relationship with electronica and indie music. They have played a few festivals including Parklife 2007 and some good support gigs such as DATAROCK from Norway. Thier style is very 80’s new wave with a pop influence and the masks were very cute, however I am always concerned when the most charismatic member of the band is the drummer, and the least charismatic is the lead singer. Though this is a bit of a novelty act, sadly they were outclassed this evening by the two exceptional bands who played before them. Twist Oliver Twist were lacking in energy resulting in some very flat vocals from lead singer. Thier song “Mediocrity Rules” seemed to sum up thier performance, this was not the best show from an otherwise up and coming band.
