Melbourne singer-songwriter Michael Paynter played The Prince Bandroom for the launch of his new-ish EP, Love The Fall. Paynter took to the stage with gusto and vibrancy, eager to please his audience. His performance style was positive and honest, banter humble yet friendly, whilst his vocals were as much at home on ballads “Crave” and “Novocaine”, as they were on pop-rock tracks such as “Love The Fall”. Notable mention should be made of his frantic rock cover of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”, which maintained the energetic momentum of the show.

The bill included solid support from Ryan Meeking and Stonefield. Meeking’s melancholy folk/pop tales were alluring, but Stonefield were the surprise of the night. After being discovered on Triple J’s Unearthed – Best Highschool Band in Australia competition, Stonefield (made up of the Findlay sisters) a four-piece rock band, have gone on to support noteworthy bands such as The Cat Empire and Children Collide. Their gritty glam-rock sound is akin to Led Zeppelin and The Velvet Underground. Stand out track was “Through The Clover”, their confident performance exceeds their young years, they are on the road to a bright future.

The night was an exciting insight into the young and upcoming talent shaping the musical landscape of Melbourne.
